Bhutan Entry Permit Documentation Requirements

Indian nationals do not require a visa to enter Bhutan, but must secure an official Entry Permit instead. Travelers can apply for this permit via the online portal prior to departure or directly upon arrival at the border or airport immigration counters.

1. Mandatory Core Documents

The following documentation must be prepared by all individual travelers:

    Primary Identification: You must present either an original Indian Passport with a minimum of 6 months validity OR an original Voter Identity Card (EPIC).

    Photographs: Two recent passport-size color photographs.

  •  

    Travel Insurance: A valid travel insurance policy explicitly covering the entire duration of your stay in Bhutan is required.

  •  

    Sustainable Development Fee (SDF): A copy or receipt of your pre-paid SDF payment. For Indian nationals, this fee is fixed at ₹1,200 per adult, per night.

2. Specialized Requirements for Minors (Under 18)

    Identification: Minors must provide either an original valid passport or an original Birth Certificate issued cleanly in English.

  •  

    Guardianship: Minor applicants must be accompanied by a legal guardian throughout the duration of the trip.

3. Self-Drive & Personal Vehicle Cross-Border Requirements

If you plan to drive or ride a personal vehicle across the international border into Bhutan, you must present the following vehicle documentation:

    Driver Licensing: Original and valid Driving License.

  •  

    Vehicle Registration: Original Registration Certificate (RC). The vehicle's RC must not be older than 10 years.

  •  

    Compliance Certificates: A valid vehicle insurance policy alongside a certified vehicle emission or roadworthiness certificate.

  •  

    Owner Authorization: If the driver operating the vehicle is not the registered owner listed on the RC, a formal, signed authority letter from the legal owner is mandatory.
